Crochet dolls, digest. Learn to crochet amigurumi toys with descriptions and patterns Knitted anime characters

It so happens that some cute traditional things from one country find their fans all over the world. Amigurumi is no exception. After all, the birthplace of amigurumi is Japan, but if you look on the Internet, it becomes clear that small cute toys have already taken over the whole world. Descriptions of amigurumi can be found in Russian, English, Spanish, German and other languages.

What is amigurumi?

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small cute toys. But recently, crocheted amigurumi have become most widespread. The size of amigurumi usually does not exceed 10 cm, although recently much larger specimens have appeared.

The Japanese love to give amigurumi eyes and a nose. A toy can be a prototype of some kind of animal - a bear cub, a bunny, or it can be an inanimate object - a cup, pan, cake, pastry, car, etc.

The revival of the art of amigurumi began in the 70s, when the concept of “kawaii” appeared in Japan - this is something pretty, arousing pity, charming, touching. The symbol of kawaii is the Hello Kitti doll, created by designer Yuko Shimizu. Kitty immediately fell in love with the Japanese, and then found fans all over the world.

How are amigurumi different from other toys?

  • In terms of head size, amigurumi usually have a disproportionately large head. Regardless of whether it is an animal, a doll or a fruit, a vegetable, it may have only one head, but it is always cute and touching.
  • Classic amigurumi are plain. The Japanese are well-known lovers of minimalism, so their amigurumi are not multi-colored.
  • The size of the toy is 8-10 cm, although there are exceptions both smaller and larger.
  • Knitting technique. Amigurumi is crocheted with a smaller hook size than usual.

Knitting rules

If you plan to knit amigurumi patterns, then you will find them useful.

How to connect parts

If your amigurumi toy consists of several parts, then you should think about how to connect them. The easiest way is to simply sew the parts together with a needle. But, if you want the toy’s legs to be movable, then a hinged connection method will be useful to you. look on our website.

Crochet clothes for amigurumi

As we wrote above, classic amigurumi are knitted in one color or with a minimal set of colors. Clothes for such amigurumi toys, if necessary, are not removable. For example, if your Kitty’s dress should be green, then the body itself and part of the arm are knitted in green, and a flounce is tied at the bottom. It is impossible to take off such clothes and change the image of an amigurumi. People who are passionate about amigurumi knitting come up with different images for their charges and knit different clothes for dolls and animals. In this collection, we did not present crochet patterns for amigurumi, but they are definitely in our digest.

Crochet amigurumi chihuahua

The tiny Chihuahua has recently become quite a popular dog breed among animal lovers. This is due not only to its miniature size. This is a very affectionate, unpretentious and devoted four-legged friend.
Of course, a knitted Chihuahua will not replace a real dog, but it will certainly give you positive emotions. This cute toy will appeal to both adults and children. A miniature chihuahua is crocheted according to the Kristel Droog pattern, translated by Maryana Chaban. The size of the toy depends on the thickness of the yarn you will knit with and ranges from 11 to 17 cm.

  • yarn of the main color (I knitted jeans 160m\50g number 21) - 1 or one and a half skeins, depending on the density of knitting;
  • yarn for clothes (at least two colors - dress and pantaloons) at your discretion;
  • some yarn for the horns and tail tassels;
  • some yarn for a bucket;
  • cotter pin fastening or 2 buttons (for a cow with a height of 20 cm, diameter 2 cm). or you can do without fastenings, just sew on the head));
  • 2 half beads (beads, ready-made eyes) or just a little bit of black thread for eyes;
  • 2 buttons for nostrils;
  • 2 buttons for sandals;
  • 2 buttons on the dress;
  • plastic canvas (cardboard, plastic cover) for insoles and the bottom of the bucket;
  • a piece of wire for a bucket;
  • filler;

Crochet amigurumi lion cub

You will need 30-40 grams of yarn in the main color, some yarn for the mane, some filler like holofiber for stuffing and a couple of beads or buttons for the eyes.
The head and body are one piece. The legs and arms are knitted one at a time and then sewn to the body. It is convenient to stuff and sew on the ears and muzzle when the head is already ready, but the body has not yet begun. The eyes can be sewn on when the toy is assembled, then the nose, mouth and eyebrows can be embroidered, and the mane last.

Knitted dolls - how wonderful they are! They have a special charm and a magical ability to make you smile. You can knit such a doll for a child, for a friend, or for yourself, your beloved. If you exclude small plastic parts from the design, you will get an excellent toy for children, and if you use dry fragrant herbs instead of filler, then you will get an unusual sachet. In addition, crocheting a doll is easy. You can create such a toy with your own hands in just a few evenings.
Best wishes for your creativity, Jeiana Johanssen.

I decided to try my hand at creating the image of a famous character. My choice fell on the arch-sorceress from the race of crimson demons Megumin (Megumin) from the anime Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (This wonderful world!). I tried to make the frame amigurumi doll match the image as accurately as possible, at least the body and clothes turned out well. But I tinkered with my hair for a very long time, but I still couldn’t style it like the original. My knitted doll ended up with long hair.

I will publish the diagram of the frame knitted doll in two parts, since the description is very voluminous. This is MK on Megumin's body.

Clothes diagram for Megumin doll link.

Materials and tools used:

  • hook No. 1
  • Beige and dark gray iris yarn for the body (YarnArt Iris)
  • Red, yellow, orange, brown yarn for clothing. I couldn’t find any yarn that matched the color, so I knitted the clothes from floss using three threads.
  • Wire for frame
  • Filling: holofiber.

Legend:

  • sc - single crochet
  • VP - air loops
  • p - loop
  • dec – knit two sc together.
  • inc – knit two sc in one loop.
  • x n times – how many times to repeat the designated area, where n is a number.

Crocheting the body will be without sewing parts, i.e. a single canvas. To avoid the need to break the thread during knitting, the order of work will be as follows:

  1. Left and right hand (knitted immediately on the wire for the arm frame)
  2. Left leg
  3. Right leg
  4. Frame for legs and torso is inserted
  5. Torso
  6. Tying hands into the body
  7. Connecting the frame into a single whole
  8. Head

Body

We combine the legs and continue knitting.

Place your legs together (the leg with the working thread is on your left side, i.e. this will be the right leg of the doll). The connection point will be the 3rd loop of the right leg and the 11th loop of the left leg.

In the process of decreasing, the knitting gets a little confused, so adjust the shape and shift the center in the right direction.

  1. 3 sc on the right leg, 2 ch, join in the 11th loop of the left leg, 17 sc, dec (1 loop from the left leg, 1 loop from the chain chain), dec (1 loop from the ch, 1 stitch from the left leg), 14 sc (38)

  7. 9 sbn, dec, 10 sbn, dec, 1 sbn (22)

Back view

Insert the wire casing into the legs and stuff them. Next, stuff the body as you knit.

Rows 49-64 (15 rows) – 22 sc each. This is the body of a knitted doll up to the point where the arms are attached. Knit the last 64th row to the place where the arms will be joined (I got 20 sc) and go to row 65.

We attach the hands. Divide the knitting into 4 parts: back, chest, left side, right side. Chest – 8, back – 6, left and right sides – 4 each. Attach your arms to your sides. Knit 4 side stitches together with 4 arm stitches (on the inside of the arm in the middle).

  1. Knit 4 sc together on the arms and body, 8 sc, 4 sc together on the arms and body, 6 sc. (with hands in a circle it turns out to be 22)
  2. 22 sc
  3. dec, dec, dec, 4 sc, dec, dec, dec, dec, 2 sc, dec (14)
  4. dec x 7 times (7)

Head

Now we knit the head.

  2. (1 sc, inc) x 6 times (18)
  3. (2 sc, inc) x 6 times (24)
  4. (3 sc, inc) x 6 times (30)
  5. (4 sc, inc) x 6 times (36)
  6. 2 sbn, (inc, 5 sbn) x 5 times, inc, 3 sbn (42)
  7. 42 sc

  16. 42 sc
  17. 42 sc
  18. 42 sc
  19. 42 sc.

Stop at this point and embroider the eyes of the doll on the uncovered head. In this position it is easier to embroider than when the head of the knitted toy is already stuffed with filler and closed. After embroidering, continue knitting.

  1. (5 sc, dec) x 6 times (36)
  2. (4 sc, dec) x 6 times (30)
  3. (3 sc, dec) x 6 times (24)
  4. (2 sc, dec) x 6 times (18)

Frame amigurumi doll Megumin, part 1: body

The Japanese never cease to amaze me. They came up with so many things - ikebana, origami, Sudoku, Shintoku, etc. - just not to sit idle. But recently I heard a rather interesting word - amigurumi... Those who are interested in knitting probably already know what we will be talking about :)

Amigurumi (Japanese: 編み包み) - literally means "knitted-wrapped" or "clothed knitting".

This is the art of knitting or crocheting small, soft animals and humanoid creatures (5-8 cm). Amigurumi are most often cute animals (such as bears, bunnies, cats, dogs and others), people, but they can also be inanimate objects endowed with human properties. For example, cupcakes, hats, handbags and others. Recently, crocheted amigurumi have become more popular and more common.

A distinctive feature of amigurumi toys is their cuteness (disproportionality). The knitted character should have much smaller limbs compared to the rather large head.

Amigurumi are usually knitted from yarn using a simple knitting method - in a spiral and, unlike the European knitting method, the circles are not connected. They are also crocheted in a smaller size relative to the thickness of the yarn to create a very tight fabric without any gaps through which the stuffing material can escape.

Amigurumi are often made from parts and then put together, with the exception of some amigurumi that do not have limbs, but only have a head and torso that form one whole. The limbs are sometimes stuffed with plastic pieces to give them live weight, while the rest of the body is filled with fiber filling.

The history of amigurumi, like many things in Japan, has its roots in China, where knitted toys have been known since ancient times. The Japanese became interested in such toys thanks to the Kawaii culture in the 70s and the emergence of the Hello Kitty brand. The first toys were made specifically for children, and also as amulets, given to each other as a sign of gratitude.

And in 2002, the Japanese Amigurumi Association was created to exchange information between masters and promote such art.

Here's what you'll need to create this beauty:

1. Crochet hook approximately 1.0-1.5, or knitting needles 1.5-3.0

2. Any thin yarn. In most cases, this is “Iris” - a large selection of colors, bright and comfortable to knit, but acrylic and wool are also used. More experienced ones experiment with angora and mohair

3. Filler for stuffing - this can be cotton wool, paralon, padding polyester, holofiber, as well as glass or plastic balls for stuffing limbs. Holofiber is better suited - it holds its shape and does not wrinkle, unlike cotton wool.

4. Various decorations - eyes, beads, beads, sequins, ribbons, buttons

5. Tinting products: from markers and wax crayons to real cosmetics - eye shadow, blush, lipstick and eyeliner

On the World Wide Web you can find many diagrams and descriptions of such toys. Even beginners can knit such a little miracle without any problems :)

Good luck to you!

I always thought that ikebana and origami are the most common in Japan. I didn’t even know about the existence of Amigurumi. Of course, I knew that the Japanese knit, just like ordinary people, but the fact that they have this whole art surprised me. It turns out they knit such cute toys. I know how to knit, but there is a problem - there is no hook, and I’m too lazy to go buy everything I need, oh yes~ I’m very lazy:3 I could knit a lot of things for myself) I love all sorts of different small toys:3

I just never cease to be amazed at the creativity of the Japanese nation, it’s so interesting, amusing, and doesn’t seem to be particularly difficult - thoughts immediately arise like: “maybe I should try it myself?” because it is impossible to pass by such a miracle..
It’s strange that I didn’t notice this topic before - such a mistake, however... thank you so much for such educational material:3

Amigurumi is a technique for crocheting small animals. It was invented in Japan. Lately this activity has been very popular. Schemes describing how to crochet toys are necessary for choosing threads and creating a quality product.

Start knitting

You need to start crocheting toys by studying the description and diagram.

To do this, you need to know the basic conventions:

  • VP – air loop;
  • ss – connecting column;
  • sc – single crochet;
  • ps – half-column;
  • dc - double crochet;
  • ss2n – double crochet stitch;
  • inc – knit 2 sc in one loop, triple – 3 sc;
  • dec - make a sc in the next loop - there are 2 threads on the hook, again a sc in the loop next to it - there are 3 threads on the hook. We pull the main thread through 3 loops. This way the two loops are combined.
  • *2sc, inc*. Repeat *2 times (8) – two single crochets, in the next column, etc. Repeat twice. This makes only 8 loops.

Some components

The amigurumi technique involves knitting on both walls. Increases and decreases are used to give the toy its shape. You can’t just skip a stitch to decrease, as this will create a hole. To make the toy heavier, small beads are used and sewn into the fabric.

When starting to crochet toys, you need to familiarize yourself with the descriptions and diagrams in advance. All abbreviated names of loops should be clear.

Ring: diagram and description of amigurumi knitting

Typically, most models start with a circle with a hole inside it. The amigurumi ring technique will help solve this problem.

Detailed diagram:

  1. Make a loop at a distance of 2.5 cm, the thread is between the index and middle fingers;
  2. Insert the hook into the loop and pull through;
  3. Grab the working thread, pull it through the loop and tighten;
  4. Pull the hook under both threads (warp and tail) at the same time;
  5. Grab the main thread with a hook (2 loops on the hook) and pull through the loops. The result is the first sc of the ring;
  6. Knit 6-10 sc and tighten the thread of the remaining ring. The result is a semicircle of sc;
  7. Insert the hook into the first loop and knit a sc.

When compiling this collection, we could not have imagined that there would be so many different crocheted dolls on the Internet.

What skills will you need to crochet a doll?

  1. Firstly, you should learn how to knit an “amigurumi ring”, because almost all parts of small toys are knitted on its basis. Thanks to this method, there are no holes at the base of the round parts. And such toys look much neater.
  2. Secondly, you need to be able to knit in a spiral, without lifting loops. When you knit a piece with lifting loops using single crochets, a so-called seam remains. Sometimes it can be hidden, for example on the head under the hair of a doll, but on the arms and legs it will not look professional.
  3. Thirdly, you need to decide on the eyes, what kind of eyes you will make for the doll. It’s not for nothing that they say that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. The realism of the finished toy, its soul, will depend on the eyes. To begin with, you can make bead eyes, buy ready-made eyes in the store. But the height of perfection will be embroidered eyes or drawn using a special technique. Some needlewomen share their secrets for creating eyes. You can find videos like this on YouTube.
  4. Fourthly, to create a frame doll you will have to learn the basics of working with wire.
  5. Fifthly, you will need desire and a good mood! And also our selection to help you. Of course, we could not cover all the dolls that handicrafts knit and show on the vastness of our and foreign Internet. But we tried to show several interesting specimens. The main thing is that all of them have detailed descriptions and diagrams.
