Types of glitter

Glitter is large sparkles made from colored foil or metallized paper. They can be of very different shapes.

Glitter is often confused with shimmer, but the difference between them is significant: shimmer is very small particles of shining powder that softly shimmer on the nails, slightly shimmering; glitter, on the contrary, due to its size, is noticeable, catches the eye, and shines brightly.

Glitter can be different, and each of its subtypes has its own advantages. Choose the one that is more convenient for you to use.

"Liquid"

In manicure, liquid glitter is a transparent nail polish with large sparkles. It is convenient to apply - you just need to paint your nails with this varnish. However, the “density” of the coating in one layer will be low. If you want more glitter on your nails, you will have to use a brush to select them from the bottle.

How to use nail glitter correctly

Is glitter a tool for professional nail art? Not at all. You just need to learn how to use it correctly. It all depends on the type of glitter you decide to use in your design.

How to apply sparkles and glitter

If we are talking about “liquid” glitter, that is, about ordinary varnish with glitter, then there will be no difficulties: you just need to distribute it evenly over the surface of the nails so that the coating density of the glitter itself is quite high.

  • If you want to achieve a more sparkling effect, add more glitter to your brush, “fishing” it out of the bottle.
  • If the desired result is the shimmer of just a few sparkles on each nail, one coat of this polish will be enough.

Firstly, you can dip your fingertips with nail polish applied to your nails, which has not yet dried, into a jar of glitter. The glitter will adhere well to the sticky surface. However, keep in mind: this method will cause you a lot of trouble - you will have to remove excess glitter from the skin around the nail plate.

Secondly, when applying dry glitter, you can use a brush. Thanks to this, the result will be much more accurate (you won’t have to clean the cuticle of glitter), and the consumption of materials will be economical. In addition, with a brush you can cover only the necessary areas of the nail plate with glitter (if, for example, you need to decorate it with glitter only at the tips or closer to the hole).

Thirdly, you can sprinkle glitter on your nails with just a coat of polish. In this case, the manicure will again not be “clean” - you will have to remove excess glitter that gets on the skin. This method is good because it provides a soft dispersion effect.

How to fix glitter on your nails

Applying glitter to nail polish that has not yet dried does not guarantee long-lasting results. The glitter will need to be further secured.

  • It is best to do a manicure with glitter using gel polishes. Considering that they harden in a lamp under the influence of UV rays, the glitter will stick as well as possible. If you do this kind of nail art with glitter using ordinary varnishes, there is a chance that after a few days of beauty it will already be ruined by chips.

Nail design and manicure with glitter

Even a simple glitter coating can no longer be called a simple manicure. But glitter can complement other elements of nail art. What design options can you get using glitter?

Patterns made with glitter

Delicate work, but the result is worth it: glitter can be applied with a thin manicure brush, leaving a shining mark on the surface of the nail plate and thereby creating an elegant decor.

French manicure

French manicure in its classic form often bores even adherents of traditional manicure options. But it is easy to transform. And glitter can help - it can replace the white stripe on your fingertips.

With an image

Whatever pattern you choose for nail art, you can complement it with shining details - “sprinkle it” with sparkles or, for example, decorate it with shimmering lines drawn with a brush filled with loose glitter.

With clear varnish

One of the main nail trends of the season is design on a transparent background. Take it into account by “drowning” the glitter in a clear varnish. An aquarium manicure is created using this principle.

Ombre

Using glitter, an ombre effect is also created (find out how to make such a design using regular varnish in ours). It will be very easy to get a gradient: just apply the glitter so that, like stardust, they scatter towards the hole or, conversely, towards the tips of the nails.

With sparkles, it takes a leading position. It not only looks stylish, bright, elegant, but also belongs to the universal nail art.

There are many variations of shiny nail designs. You can easily choose a sparkling manicure for any outfit, as well as for a party, a romantic dinner, and special occasions.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages include the versatility of a shining manicure. If you have taste and a sense of proportion, such a coating will always look advantageous and appropriate.

The sparkling coating can be used for any design, it is suitable for all styles: from strict classics to bold modern. Nails can shine on both an elegant businesswoman and a reckless rocker: the main thing is to choose the right base and material for design.

If you have a busy schedule, you can add a few dazzling rhinestones to your nails coated with glitter polish. In a couple of minutes, a discreet daytime manicure will shine with new bright colors that will be appropriate for any evening event.

A shiny manicure looks great on short and long natural nails, as well as on extended and false nails. This coating allows you to hide the defect of the nail plate. Also, with the help of a brilliant design, you can visually adjust its shape.

The disadvantages include that that the appearance of shiny nails greatly depends on the quality of the material used to create such a coating.

It is important to fix it correctly so that the glitter does not fall off.

To secure large parts (rhinestones, figures, beads, threads), you need to use reliable glue and do the work very carefully so that the shiny parts do not fall off at the most inopportune moment.

Poorly secured protruding glitter can not only suddenly fall off, but they can get caught in hair or clothing threads.

A high-quality exclusive manicure with shiny elements is expensive.

Types of sparkles

Sand (Bellion) – small shining particles of different colors. Apply with a thin brush, needle or toothpick, which are pre-moistened in water.

The grains of sand are placed on the nail plate covered with undried varnish (on the base).

The grains are carefully covered with a special fixative or fixed to a thin layer of glue. Using shiny multi-colored sand and glue, you can create complex original compositions.

Glitter Dust– used for festive nail art. Microglitters are a dry version of shiny specks of dust in finished varnishes. The advantage of dry material is the ability to regulate the amount and “pour” glitter in the form of patterns. Excess dust particles are simply brushed off with a brush after the base has dried and secured with varnish for fixation.

Rhinestones made of glass, plastic, as well as metal and crystal, imitating precious stones. They are produced in all kinds of shapes, in a rich range of colors and shades. The size of rhinestones is from 1 to 3 mm.
They are sold individually, in sets for each nail or in a package (bottle) of 80 to 100 pieces. The most spectacular Swarovski rhinestones made from the purest rock crystal.

Among young people, a fashion trend is neon rhinestones that go with any nail polish.

Curly sequins allow you to create amazing compositions that shine in the rays of light no worse than rhinestones. All kinds of figures are distributed on the nail until the base varnish has dried. They work with the same material as with shiny sand.

When coated with a fixative, the color of the figures may change, because... varnish dissolves paint. This should be taken into account. The exception is miniature applications made of gold and silver foil.

Holograms are placed on large figures.

Among the shiny figurines, the following are very popular:

  • rainbow and holographic hearts;
  • crystal stars;
  • holographic crescents, stars, fibers (silver);
  • rainbow and holographic hexagons;
  • gold stars;
  • gold (holographic) and multi-holographic fibers;
  • Zodiac signs.

Working with dry glitter requires experience; such a manicure is often difficult to do on your own. It’s easier to use ready-made varnishes with glitter at home. They are applied as a decorative finished coating or used as a base for rhinestones.

Glitter is added to a colored or colorless base.

The best manicure products

A large assortment of glitter polish is available in any salon or store that sells cosmetics. This varnish is produced by various cosmetics companies, including the world's leading brands:

The products of the famous Dior are distinguished by their rich palette and high durability. The varnishes of this company lie smoothly on the surface, retain their color for a long time, do not fade, or crack for more than a week. They are an excellent base for loose glitter. Glamorous sparkling polishes from DIOR are popular.

SALLY HANSEN releases a polish with a 3D effect and pearlescent shine. For a manicure with glitter, you can choose classic colors and trendy shades.

BELWEDER varnishes mask defects, treat microcracks, delaminations and roughness of the nail plate.

ALESSANDRO produces a long-lasting polish with a brilliant shine. It contains diamond dust and silk threads.

Products for popular nail design are produced by Cuccio Cafe, DollarStour, DLFie and many other companies.

Manicure technique

  1. Need to get your nails done by performing a standard manicure.
  2. Determine color and artistic design each nail plate.
  3. Cover the plates with base(varnish matching the color). The coating must dry.
  4. In accordance with the chosen design, apply glue to the main outlines of the design. The nail is worked on until the composition is completed. Only after this can you begin to design another plate. This technology will prevent the glue from drying out.
  5. Cover the finished work with a fixative, which will protect the drawing from falling off.
  6. Carefully work on each nail, eliminating all shortcomings.

Working with extended nail plates

Glitter looks great on artificial acrylic and gel nails. Extended nail plates with a shining design are the ideal solution for a festive look. The design depends only on the professionalism of the master and the preferences of the client.

There are two options for creating shiny nail extensions:

  1. Gel shiny nails are formed during the extension process. The master mixes the material for the artificial plate with shiny components that the client chooses.
  2. French manicure with glitter is performed on finished nails, extended in a standard way.

When creating a manicure on artificial nail plates, adhere to the following rules:

  • It is necessary to take precautions so that the shining manicure does not look vulgar or ridiculous. Especially when decorating nail plates with large elements.
  • It is worth considering that a large number of shiny details visually enlarges the nail., gives a heavy tacky look.
  • Decoration of the entire nail plate is done only with very small glitter (dust). This decor is appropriate only on one nail of the hand.
  • Sequins are appropriate to complement designs, highlighting the main composition.
  • For harmony and completeness of the look, use sparkles in the same shades as the shimmering elements of your evening outfit. Patterns of sparkles that repeat the pattern on clothing look beautiful.
  • With the help of sparkles on extended nails, the details of jewelry that you plan to wear to a celebration with shiny stones look impressive. This manicure is very harmonious and sophisticated.

The best manicure ideas

A manicure with glitter opens up wide possibilities for creativity. The main thing is to choose the right artistic and color design of your nails to match your clothing style.

Daytime nail art is chosen in softer colors, evening nail art is brighter and rich in radiance. Such a manicure should also correspond to the surrounding environment and the status of the event.

Some design tips:

Masters advise applying glitter coating only to the tips of the nails or the area of the holes covered with varnish (transparent or neutral color). You can cover the top of one nail and the hole of the next with glitter. A design made in this manner is laconic and quite universal.

A manicure with an emphasis on the ring finger looks very impressive. You can make a design on it using a dost and decorate it with rhinestones, cover the rest of the nails with a plain varnish or a coating with shining dust.

Nails with a shiny finish, decorated with appliqués and voluminous figures look luxurious. They can be placed singly or form a composition. These could be flowers, butterflies, scatterings of stars or “precious” stones (rhinestones).

Sparkling manicure goes perfectly with popular- elegant design. Printed pictures are not applied to all nails, but selectively; some are limited to the nail on the ring finger.

The glitter “lays” beautifully on the gel polish. This manicure maintains a fresh look for more than 14 days. The varnish is quickly removed and does not have a harmful effect on the flexibility and strength of the nail plates.

Manicure with glitter is very often chosen for special occasions, parties, and various holidays. But many girls do not neglect sparkling nail designs on weekdays. The main thing is to maintain style, not to overdo it with glitter during the day, and skillfully combine such a bright manicure with clothes and accessories.

Types of glitter for nail design

A shiny manicure can be done using sparkles (glitter) of two types:

  1. Dry glitter - available in small plastic or glass jars. They are often also called glitter powder. They are applied to gel polish without drying.
  2. Liquid glitter. They are sold in bottles with clear or colored gel polish.

In addition to the fact that glitter on nails comes in different textures, they also differ in appearance: they can be too small, like dust, or large (up to 1.5 mm). They can be of different shapes, most often round, but you can buy square, rectangular plates, stars, and so on. And of course, they differ in color: they can be plain or multi-colored.

Doing a manicure with dry glitter

If you bought a jar of dry glitter and don’t know how to carefully make a glitter manicure at home, then we will tell you. To do this, stock up on the following tools and materials:

  • base and top;
  • colored gel polish;
  • fan and regular manicure brush;
  • UV lamp.

After preparing all the equipment, you can start working:

Step 1

We apply a base coat to the prepared plate and then dry the fingers in a lamp.

Step 2

We paint our nails with colored gel polish in one layer and send our fingers out to dry again. To achieve a more saturated color, we cover the plate with a second layer of varnish, but do not dry it.

Step 3

We open the jar with decorations, use a brush to pick up a small amount of decor, place one nail over the jar and begin to dust off the glowing sand. At the same time, we immediately think through the design of how the reflective particles should fit on the plate. If you overdo it with glowing grains of sand, you can chicken out without touching anything with your fingernail itself. Or you can simply correct the grains of sand with a transparent brush. After applying the decor, we send the fingers into the lamp.

Step 4

Apply top coat and dry the nails again.

The glitter manicure design is ready. Please note that glitter and shimmering grains of sand can be applied either thickly or lightly, depending on where the fashionista is going to go with such bright nails.

Design with glitter rubbed into gel polish

Another way to make your nails as shiny as possible is to apply bright decor using the rubbing method. Don't know how to cover a plate with a thick layer of glitter? Now you will learn how to make a manicure with glitter to get a dense design with a shining effect:

Stage 1

As usual, we prepare our fingers - we push back the cuticle and go over the plate with a buff.

Stage 2

We cover the nails with a base and dry them in a lamp.

Stage 3

Paint your nails with colored shellac in one or two layers. After the last applied layer, do not dry your fingers.

Stage 4

Open a jar of dry glitter, hold the nail over the container, pick up sparkling dust with a brush and sprinkle it generously on the nail. Then, with the same brush or just a finger, we press the reflective grains of sand onto the nail, making circular movements. The end result is a printed design with a shimmering effect.

Stage 5

We cover the plate with a layer of topcoat, dry it in a lamp and remove the stickiness.

As a result, we get a beautiful manicure with sparkling particles that shimmer in the sun.

This nail design with gel coating with decorative glowing dust doesn’t need to be decorated with anything else, but you can also get creative. For example, add some rhinestones, stones, make a transition between colors, apply decorative elements to one or two nails, and paint the rest with other shellacs.

Manicure with liquid glitter

Beginners, wanting to create a bright nail design with glitter, often resort to liquid elements rather than dry ones. This is explained simply: you can overdo it with dry glitter, apply it unevenly, and ultimately ruin the design. Liquid reflective particles are usually applied, because they are already on the gel polish. Just dip the brush into the jar and paint your nail with it as you would with regular shellac.

The disadvantage of glitter on a gel coating is that the density of the decor is already determined in advance; the girl will not be able to apply a dense layer of glowing dust on her nails.

The design of nails with gel polish with existing glitter can be different. So, you can use transparent shellac with colored particles. This manicure would be appropriate for work; it does not attract much attention, because the sparkles are very small and there are few of them.

You can apply liquid glitter to match the main color or multi-colored decor onto the already applied color coating.

When doing a manicure with large sparkles, you need to distribute them on the plate using a toothpick or dots. You should take one element at a time and attach it to the nail. This way you will protect yourself from the layering of shiny grains and make the plate perfectly flat.

By the way, it is necessary to apply the liquid version of shiny particles onto a dried base. Otherwise, the polish will be pulled by the brush and the manicure will be ruined.

Shimmer effect on nails for weekdays and holidays

If you think that shiny nails are only suitable for special occasions, then this is not so. Although for the most part, of course, rhinestones, sequins, and sparkling sand are used for the holidays. But you can come up with various glitter manicure ideas that will be appropriate even in the office.

For everyday life you need to choose nude, pastel, calm colors of varnishes, and do not overdo it with the decor. A very successful example of a sparkling design is moon manicure and French manicure. This is a universal solution for business style. And by diluting the French and anti-French with bright decor, you will get an interesting, unusual manicure with a twist. At the same time, please note that glitter does not need to be applied completely to the entire plate; you can use it to make a smile line or lunula, decorate a design or geometric shapes with it, or rub glitter sand into the nail.

For a holiday option, an evening look, or special occasions, there are no restrictions on the use of sparkles. Here you can choose both the boldest, brightest glitter colors and calm ones. The main thing is that the glitter nail design is in harmony with accessories and clothes.

Any girl can make a bright, shiny, sparkling manicure at home. All you need to do is stock up on dry or liquid glitter and use them correctly in nail decoration. French manicure is still one of the most popular trends in nail design and. Using gel polish in pastel shades, you can make a beautiful jacket with a sophisticated pattern of small glitter in tandem with shiny rhinestones. ♦ IDEAS FOR MANICURE WITH GEL POLISH AND GLITTER

❶ There is a very simple way to make an elegant jacket on shellac. It is enough to apply one layer of gel polish to the hardened base, polymerize it in a UV lamp and apply glitter on the sticky layer along the free edge (for convenience, you can attach a stencil cut out of thick paper). We apply a finishing layer on top, to which you can add a few shiny rhinestones, and then dry it in a lamp;

❷ Geometric manicure this season is not much inferior in popularity to French manicure for short nails. For example, you can delimit the surface of the nail with thin shiny stripes, and then highlight individual areas with a contrasting color and sparkles;

❸ Lunar manicure or reverse French manicure with glitter in the area of the nail hole can be conveniently done using limiter stencils. Instead of the classic “smile line”, you can choose a triangular, wavy or straight line with asymmetry. The nail hole on the colored layer of gel polish can be highlighted completely or only with a strip along the outer line, using fine glitter;

❹ If you want to make a mirror manicure with an iridescent mother-of-pearl surface, then you can use a special nail rub. The glitter powder adheres very well to the sticky (dispersion) layer of shellac. The powder must be evenly distributed over the sticky surface of the gel polish, and then secured with a finishing coat;

❺ A gradient on nails made by stretching a layer with fine glitter looks very unusual. Stretching is done with an orange stick from the central part of the nail to the free edge. Individual strips can be made with a thin brush. After the procedure, apply a thin layer of top coat and polymerize in a lamp;

❻ Nail artists often use glitter as an accent for individual parts of the design or patterns on the nails. For example, you can paint on gel polish and add small sparkles along the edges of some lines of the composition;

❼ If you like to wear dresses with polka dots, then you can make a dotted coating of glitter on gel polish, choosing a decor that matches the color of polka dots. For this design, you can use large glitter or make “polka dots” on shellac with shiny “dust” using a stencil with circles.

♦ VIDEO MATERIALS

Glitter has a special place in manicure design. With their help, you can transform any manicure, no matter how boring and uninteresting it may seem initially. Almost everyone loves glitter. But not everyone knows how to apply it to their nails correctly. This topic needs detailed study.

Peculiarities

The role and importance of sparkles in the life of every fashionista has increased even more with the advent of gel polish. Now these two concepts are inseparable, confidently occupying a place on the manicure tables of professionals and settling in the homes of ordinary women. This decor has a number of features that are worth studying immediately.

  1. Glitter on gel polish is easy and simple to apply. There are several techniques, any of them can be used both in the salon and at home. You can have a minimal set of polishes, but with the help of glitter you can get a new design every time.
  2. Convenience in creating various design options, from simple to the most complex and intricate.
  3. Glitter does not spoil the quality of the work; on the contrary, it prolongs the durability of the manicure. But only under the condition of high-quality overlap, in which not a single corner of the shiny element will cling during wear.
  4. A huge range of decor allows you to implement any ideas, no matter how bold and original they may be.
  5. Low cost allows you not to limit yourself in choosing sparkles.

Gel polish costs an order of magnitude higher, and a jar of glitter is affordable.

Kinds

Most glitter is created using the same pattern: metallized foil film is cut into very small pieces. They differ in shape, color, size.

Depending on their size, sparkles are divided into several groups:

  • Dat is characterized by very small sizes, even tiny, it is practically powder, which can even be used as a rub for a sticky layer;
  • glitter is larger particles, the diameter of which varies between 3-5 mm;
  • Confetti is what we used to call round sparkles of different colors and sizes, although in fact they are called kamifubuki, which translates as “paper storm”.

Also, glitter for manicure is divided into types depending on consistency.

  1. Dry glitter is available in the form of dust and glitter. For their packaging, round flat jars or small cones are used. This decor is convenient and easy to work with. The crumbly shiny decor is applied to the sticky layer, followed by the application of the finishing coat.
  2. The liquid version of the decor is a transparent varnish to which glitter powder has been added. These glitters are sold in the same bottles with a brush as regular polish. The density of the glitter is determined by the manufacturer. It can be increased by applying several layers of varnish, but this is not always appropriate.

Application in manicure design

It is impossible to pass by the shiny boxes that sparkle and shimmer with magical light. There is never enough glitter, you always want to buy new decor that will match a new dress, go with a new look, or simply lift your spirits by decorating your nails. Glitter can be used in a variety of ways in nail design. Let's consider just a few options that are the most successful and popular:

  • framing a smile in French manicure and its reverse version;

  • a glitter pattern can be obtained using a stencil or by drawing with a thin brush;

  • highlighting individual parts of a finished drawing;

  • the gradient is achieved due to the uneven application of glitter - near the cuticle the density of the decor is maximum, it gradually decreases or vice versa;

  • sparkles can cover the entire area of the nail, show off on all fingers or only on a few; in any case, such a design requires the selection of a more modest look; the use of jewelry is undesirable;

  • a youth option is the spot application of sparkling decor.

Application techniques

To make a brilliant manicure at home, you need to familiarize yourself with the existing techniques for applying such decor. There are several techniques, none of them are complicated, each can be implemented at home even without the relevant experience.

The main thing is to do everything correctly, and then your nails will have a flawless shiny manicure that will last a long time and will not lose its beauty.

Each technique should begin with preparing the nails and cuticles for further manipulation. Without such preparation, you don’t even need to think about creating a high-quality, beautiful and durable nail design. The preparatory process includes a number of steps.

  1. We evaluate the condition and width of the cuticle. If it is not wide, then you can use an orange stick, with which the cuticle moves towards the nail bed. Otherwise, you will have to remove the regrown skin.
  2. We give the nail plate the desired length and shape. For this you need special scissors and a nail file. After cutting the nail, small jagged edges and roughness are located along its edge. To remove them, you will need to use a file for polishing, otherwise the manicure will not be durable, and the nails will constantly cling to clothes, bringing discomfort to their owner.
  3. Treating the plate with a buff allows you to remove microscopic irregularities and roughness from the nail area. It is important not to overdo it with this tool.
  4. Dust and other contaminants are removed from polished nails, and the plate is degreased. After this, you can apply the base, which is dried in a lamp.

At this point, the preparatory stage is completed, and you can proceed directly to creating a design using glitter. Study each technique in detail and choose the one that suits you.

Sprinkling method

The sprinkling method is not the most economical, which is why craftsmen rarely choose it in their work. Its essence is as follows:

  • a small layer of transparent gel is applied to the plate;
  • the finger is placed over an empty small container;
  • using a spatula, orange stick, brush or pusher, pick up a small amount of glitter;
  • sprinkle the plate, trying to achieve uniformity;
  • excess decor is removed with a fan dry brush;
  • dry in a lamp, cover with finish and dry again.

Rubbing

Rubbing is suitable for very small sparkles. In this case, the step-by-step instructions will look like this:

  • apply a layer of colored varnish and dry;
  • Apply glitter to the formed sticky layer using a dry brush using patting movements;
  • the entire surface of the plate must be covered;
  • Using rubbing movements, drive the glitter into the varnish, at the same time the remaining decor will be removed;
  • use a brush to remove the remaining decor that has not adhered to the sticky layer;
  • Place your hand in the lamp for a few seconds, apply the finish and dry your nails.

Glitter with varnish

It is convenient to apply glitter with varnish in the form of a pattern, This process is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • in a small container we combine a little varnish and glitter, mix until a homogeneous mass is obtained, decor can always be added to obtain the desired density;
  • It is better to make such a mixture for all nails at once, otherwise it will be difficult to achieve the same density, and the design may differ;
  • We take a small amount of the created mixture onto a brush and apply it to the plate in accordance with the chosen design;
  • dry, cover with finish and dry again.

This way you can cover the entire nail; you will need a wide brush, which will be convenient for stretching the decor.

For large decor

For large decorations, it is better to use a different technique. It will ensure the durability of the design and facilitate the work, which will consist of the following steps:

  • the future design is thought out in advance, it is better to draw it on paper or practice on a tip, such decor will be difficult to move on the nail;
  • cover the nail with modeling gel; in our case it is convenient to use this particular material;
  • for convex or large decor, it is necessary to apply a thicker layer of gel than with a regular manicure, in this case the sparkles will be recessed into the coating, and their corners will not protrude and cling in the future;
  • use a dots or magnetic pencil to grab the glitter and place it on the nail in the right place;
  • dry, cover with finish and dry again;
  • Another coat of finish may be required if the decor is sticking out or if the layer was not previously applied thick enough.

Beautiful examples

If glitter was used in the manicure, it is already irresistible. It takes a lot of “try” to spoil the design with such decor. The most interesting and beautiful ones were selected from many examples.

  • This example involved a lot of techniques, but the results were worth it. It’s hard to take your eyes off these marigolds; you want to look at them again and again. In this case, sparkles were used very successfully and in moderation; they set the necessary accents and dilute the black jacket, which without them would have looked boring and gloomy. The decoration was applied using different techniques. Liquid glitter was used to frame the smile, and powder was used to decorate the designs.
